Petition of Cambodian Students in Korea & Cambodian Alumni in Cambodia

Dear Fellow Cambodian Students in Korea and Cambodian Alumni in Cambodia,

We, Cambodian students currently studying in the Republic of Korea and alumni who graduated from Korean institutions and now reside in Cambodia, express our deep concern over the escalating violence along the Cambodian–Thai border, which has resulted in the tragic loss of Cambodian civilian and military lives.

Cambodia has consistently pursued peaceful and diplomatic solutions. However, our country and our people have repeatedly suffered from cross-border military attacks that have endangered civilians, displaced entire communities, and damaged schools, villages, and cultural and religious sites.

As Cambodian students abroad and alumni at home, we believe we have a shared responsibility to raise our voices respectfully, responsibly, and constructively. Through this petition, we collectively call upon the Government of the Republic of Korea to support ongoing peace diplomacy, closely monitor the ceasefire process, and stand with Cambodia in this difficult and critical moment.

Call for Peace and Immediate Ceasefire

Peace cannot be achieved while military attacks continue to claim civilian lives and devastate communities. In 2025, Cambodian civilians have suffered repeated military operations along the border.

As of 2:00 PM on Monday, 15 December 2025, the situation has reached a tragic scale:

  • 15 Cambodian civilians have been killed, including a 36-day-old infant
  • 73 civilians have been injured
  • 409,293 civilians have been displaced, with the number continuing to rise

Recent Escalations

  • 7 December 2025: Thai military forces launched artillery strikes against Cambodian units stationed in the Prorlean Thmar area of Choam Khsan District, Preah Vihear Province. Cambodian forces exercised full restraint and did not return fire. Despite this, Thailand issued baseless accusations against Cambodia, further escalating tensions without justification.
  • 8 December 2025: Thailand significantly escalated its aggression by deploying fighter jets and heavy artillery strikes that deliberately targeted civilian areas, including villages and schools. These attacks placed children and families in immediate danger, disrupted access to education, damaged cultural and World Heritage sites, and forced more than many civilians to flee their homes.

We Urgently Call For:

  • Thailand to immediately cease all military actions against Cambodian territory and civilians
  • The United Nations Security Council to urgently convene and act to prevent further escalation
  • Full support for Prime Minister Anwar’s call for an immediate ceasefire and Thailand’s return to the Kuala Lumpur Peace Accord (26 October 2025), witnessed by President Donald J. Trump.
  • Embassies and the international community to press for restraint, accountability, and an immediate ceasefire
  • The international community to reject false equivalence and recognize that Cambodian civilians are victims of sustained military escalation

We call on peace-loving people around the world to stand with us by signing this petition and supporting dialogue over destruction.

Your participation and signature send a powerful message to the Korean Government and the international community that Cambodian students and alumni stand united for peace, dignity, and the protection of innocent lives.

🙏 Thank you for adding your voice. Together, we stand for Cambodia.

No more war. No more civilian suffering. Peace must prevail.
